The Creatures Here you will find a listing of all of the strange creatures that have yet been seen in FFC. This list, and explinations of the creatures themselves will be added to as new beings appear in the story. Dragons
Likely one of the most well known creatures in all of fantasy is the dragon. Most people, even those who don't follow fantasy have an idea about what these cretures are like. In FFC, however, they are a bit different from the standard view. Dragons of the FFC world can come in many different kinds, but the majority of them are covered in fur, and in order to hide themselves in a science-based world that has never seen magic or dragons, they can transform themselves into cats. And occasionally, when it suits them to do so, into winged cats, somewhat between the two forms.
When the humans began to take control, and magic began to fade, the dragons decided to hide themselves among humans in a new form. That of the cat. Over time, the power of the dragons was lost, and most cats today are exactly what they seem to be, simply cats. However, there were a few dragons that survived from the past. Those cats that can still transform into dragons are usually marked by unusual colorations - so watch out for dragons in disguise! Dragons generally try to stay out of the affairs of humans. With the exceptions of the two who volunteered to help the Light and the Dark, they largely keep themselves hidden. The alignment of dragons is neutral.
Guardians The Guardians are strange creatures. Only two will exist at any given moment. One for the Dark, and one for the Light. They appear on one level to be very much like humans, but they have several features that separate them from humanity. One is their pointed ears, which stand out from the shape of human ears. Another is the strange color of their eyes and hair, which are extremely unnatural. The third is, of course, the fact that they are winged.
The Guardian of Light and the Guardian of Shades exist only to serve their master, the one who leads each side. They protect him and do as he commands. When not involved in a conflict between the two sides, they are drawn back into the sword, where they wait to be summoned by a new master to fight a new war. If they are killed in battle, a new guardian is created immediately, so that neither side is without a protector for long, and the guardians may be used for more dangerous missions if needed.
Draclings Draclings are a strange, servant-race, that have survived the centuries by living in the Dark's shadow and obeying its orders. They are a strange combination of human and dragon, and neither overly intelligent, nor powerful. They are however loyal, and obediant, always seeking to please their masters. They can be counted on for duties that most would turn away, and their ability to fly makes them even more useful.
Originally created through magic to be a fusion of human and dragon, the draclings were hoped to be excellent soldiers, taking all the best elements of either race. However, the two races were not meant to combine, and the resulting creature seemed to be a patchwork of the two rather than showcasing their best features. Completely disproportional and lacking in intelligence, they are good lackeys, but are not enough to carry either side. The Light decided not to make use of the draclings, prefering instead to rely on their own abilities (as it is a hallmark of the Light to do). Those who fought for the Dark however, were never the sort to turn down free help of any kind, as they were more interested in the goal itself than how they got there. So, the draclings came into use by the Dark, their alignment however is neutral. Darklings Not to be confused with draclings, darklings are creatures that are (obviously) directly aligned with the Dark, and in fact feed off of its energy. They are greatly relied upon by the Dark, since they have little choice but to be loyal, and are generally more intelligent and more powerful than the draclings. They also have the ability to blend into normal society, and can be very useful as spies. For the most part, the two types of darklings that exist are vampires and werewolves. Vampires
Contrary to popular belief, vampires have nothing in connection to bats. The link came from the mere existence of vampire bats, a creature which drinks blood. Though they share similar tastes in food, they have nothing else in common. Vampires tend to look mostly human, but they can do little to disguise their pointed ears and fangs, so it's rare to find them acting publicly. Their claws can be made longer or shorter, but will never entirely dissapear. Overall, vampires are not incredibly dangerous. They aren't much stronger than a human. They do possess the ability to turn other humans into vampires like themselves, but they generally find it much easier to either kill and enemy or get away. Their greatest ability is the ability to transform themselves into smoke, which makes them impossible to harm, and able to move faster and get places no one else can.
"Rules" regarding the smoke transformation
Vampires are loyal subjects of the Dark, however, due to their solitary nature, there are relatively few of them in the world considering the power that the Dark currently has. The majority of the Dark's soldiers are werewolves. Werewolves Little is known of werewolves to this point save that they do exist. Creatures of the Light There were, at one time, creatures like the Darklings created to serve the Light. However, the dragon Chaerius has pointed out that these creatures have long since gone extinct due to the fall of the Light. These creatures included the likes of unicorns and dryads. Without the Light's power to support them, they've died off. Back to information on the world of FFC
